On the eve of the year's first frost here we have been busy trying to
prepare. Constructing hoop tunnels for frost and even snow protection,
trimming branches on trees and bushes, gathering all the excess
planters, soil, and supplies into the shed, bringing tropical and cold
sensitive plants on the porch, and just enjoying these couple days of
decent weather. These increasingly more common extreme weather systems
move warm central american and caribbean air at the front of their
counter clockwise spin tricking the plants, animals, and immune systems
of our bodies. Then the cold air from canada and the northern part of
our continent is drawn down complementing and balancing the previous extreme.
As the weather systems get larger, as do the extremes. Hence, the
evolving winter protection for our food production. At least we aren't
in alaska ;)
It always amazes me at how lively the soil and its vegetation gets after doing a stirring. November 7th the moon was in opposition of saturn on a fruit crop day, meaning I was potenizing water for an hour in the yard (the afternoon as to encourage downward growth for the winter). The biodiversity which emerges after is also surprising still. New mushrooms and different weeds are growing in the yard due to the soil changing it's mineral content and energy pattern. Perhaps after a year of stirring water, potenizing it with cosmic energy, 90+ minerals, and biodynamic preps, the yard will actually show a visible, noticeable to the common eye difference in the yard. I see it, but I feel a connection to the land and look for these things. I have already noticed after just three stirrings this summer how fast the yard grew compared to neighbors. Secrets of the Soil, a life changing book.
